Vain Glorious | Sephora’s ‘It’ Brushes
By HOLLY SIEGEL |
What: Sephora I.T. Makeup Brush Collection
Why bother: Makeup brushes are usually packaged in cheap leather rolls or cheaper plastic sleeves, but Sephora has a new approach, thanks to Philippe Di Méo. The architect’s previous projects include a collection of erotic housewares and fragrances inspired by bodily fluids. But there’s nothing shocking about this 15-piece collection, apart from the fact that no one had thought of making well-designed makeup brushes with caps that allow them to stand on their own.
How they work: Sephora’s brushes have always been a good deal compared to department-store brands, and these are no exception. First, they’re color-coded by facial region, so no more squinting to read whether a handle says “eyeliner” or “contour.” The stems are slightly cone-shaped and meant to be held near the brush side for heavier coverage or toward the tip for a lighter touch. And the caps help the brush hairs retain their shape and stay clean. All good things, and infinitely more useful than a riding crop-cum-shoehorn.
How much: $14 to $40.
